FAMILY/FEAST/FAVORITE Holiday

Over the last several years, I have decided that Thanksgiving is my new Favorite holiday. I don’t think I’m alone. I wonder how many of you reading this post feel the same way? Maybe my thinking this way means I am Finally OLD? Christmas was always my Favorite holiday in the past. I still LOVE Christmas but Thanksgiving is so much more peaceful.

I like that Thanksgiving centers around Food and Family. And though I am not a self described “Foodie” for 364 days of the year, I become one on Thanksgiving. I love the preparation, the food itself and even enjoy the clean-up. (I have a tradition of listening to Handel’s Messiah while hand washing the crystal, flatware and holloware- I find this makes kitchen clean up reflective and relaxing). I have had the pleasure of being the Thanksgiving hostess over many years. I prefer being hostess for a lot of reasons. But let me be perfectly honest, one of the reasons is that I get to control the entire menu and I get all the leftovers!!! Having easy access to loads of leftovers offers days of not having to cook. (Another added bonus).

And last but not least, I Feel blessed to be able to be surrounded by my Family on this Festive occasion. Six years ago I spent Thanksgiving in Memphis during my daughter’s arduous cancer treatment (at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital). That evening, the only food she consumed was a few bites of dill pickle and some pickle juice. She was connected to a central continuous intervenous line providing all of her nutritional needs. Six years later she is still with us. She is happy, healthy and enjoys Food immensely. Today’s post is short but can be quickly summarized by stating how grateful I am for having been blessed with so much. Among these blessings are wonderful Family members. Here are just a few pictures of my Thanksgiving Festivities, Food, Table and pictures of beloved Family members who mean so much to me:

  1. Berit, I must agree that Thanksgiving has a therapeutic Feel. I share many Fabulous memories of this special holiday with Family. I especially cherish the Fond memories of spending Thanksgiving Day with my parents – surely miss their physical presence, especially this time of year.

Thanks so much for reading these Kris and for your kind comments. I’m hoping all is well with your family and you are indeed enjoying this wonderful season. I’d love to get together again after the St. Jude Gala in January and talk about your interest in helping them and other “stuff” too!
